My dear brothers and sisters, buried within the season of Advent is the root need of every human being. This is the season where we are thrust back for four weeks to contemplate a time before Christ came into the world. The question we need to answer is, do you need a redeemer? If we follow the world and say humanity is fine the way it is then Christianity has nothing to offer you, but if you are fallen and imperfect then you will find your perfection here.

    The season of Advent is one of preparation for the twofold coming of Christ. His first coming in secret and His final coming in glory. The word advent reflects this perfectly. It is from the Latin Ad and Venire meaning ‘to come to’ or ‘to arrive at’. Advent has the same root as the word adventure. This is the time that makes clear what the adventure of your life is, namely redemption. You are a broken and fallen sinner called by your nature to desire perfection, peace, and eternity. Let us embrace this moment of tension born of unfulfilled need, only then will we understand the pleasure of God and of all creation when Mary said yes to Gabriel.

            Sumergirse en la temporada de Adviento es la necesidad de todo ser humano. Esta es la temporada en la que retrocedemos por cuatro semanas para contemplar el tiempo antes de la venida de Jesucristo. ¿La pregunta que debemos responder es, necesitamos un redentor? Si seguimos al mundo y decimos que la humanidad está bien de la manera que esta entonces el Cristianismo no tiene nada que ofrecerte, pero si has fallado y eres imperfecto entonces tu encontraras la perfección aquí.          La época de adviento es de preparación para la doble venida de Jesucristo. Su primera venida en secreto y su última venida en gloria. La palabra adviento refleja esto perfectamente. Viene del Latín Ad y Venire que significa ‘venir a’ o ‘llegar a”. Adviento viene de la misma raíz que la palabra Aventura. Este es el tiempo que aclara cual es la Aventura de tu vida, es decir la redención. Tú eres un pecador quebrantado y que ha fallado que por tu naturaleza deseas la perfección, paz y la eternidad. Acojamos este momento de tensión debido a la necesidad insatisfecha, y solo entonces podremos entender el placer de Dios y de toda la creación cuando la Virgen María dijo si al Angel Gabriel.
