What is your relationship with OLPH?
We’ve been parishioners since 1988, when we transferred from St. Jude.
Family? Wife Lindy (Dr. B). Daughters Mary Kathryn (in White Plains, NY), Melissa, and Megan. Son Matt. Grandchildren Maddie and Caleb (both OLPH students), so three generations here.
How and why did you become a Minister?
I’ve always enjoyed music and was an organist at St. Jude, so it was natural for me to get involved with the choir. At times I’ve been a lector and Eucharistic minister, but music’s my main thing.
How did you get started?
Originally played organ at St. Henry parish in Nashville during my high school years, also participated in youth folk group at Our Lady of the Lake in Hendersonville in the ‘70s.
How long is your tenure? 35 years or so.
What is the most important aspect of being a Minister?
Contributing back to the community that has given me so much, using talents given by God.
How has this ministry role changed you?
Intrapersonal relationships have never been my strong suit, but I’m getting better at them. I’m also heartened to see that God has blessed us is so many (and different) ways.
What would you say to someone who is considering a ministry role at OLPH?
Like the old Nike commercial – just do it. So many people will benefit from your contributions, in ways you may never know.
Is there anything additional you would like to add?
When we moved to OLPH, we were tremendously impressed by the sense of family in this parish. Over the years, lots of things have changed in the parish, but that has never wavered.
